A Vero Beach man was arrested after a man reported being kidnapped, beaten and subjected to an anti-gay slur, according to the Sebastian Police Department.
Matthew Evans, 20, of the 1400 block of 14th Court, was charged Nov. 21 with kidnapping and attempted robbery.
Two Sebastian men are wanted in the case.
The accuser told police he arranged to meet Evans and another man for a sexual encounter at the Sebastian River Landing clubhouse, near Sebastian Boulevard and 90th Avenue, after meeting them on Instagram, according to Evans' arrest warrant.
The accuser was to pay $50 for the encounter, he told a detective.
They met about 11 p.m. Nov. 18. Evans, without warning, placed the man in a choke hold and called him an anti-gay slur as the other man accelerated out of the gated community, police reported.
They drove about a quarter-mile east and parked at San Sebastian Park, where another man with a handgun was waiting, the warrant said.
Evans and the man with the gun demanded the $50 and punched the accuser in the face until he blacked out, breaking his nose and leaving him with a depression in his cheekbone, according to police.
His sweatpants, cellphone and the money were gone by the time the man walked home 20 minutes later and called 911, according to a detective. His pants were found along Roseland Road.
The man's face was swollen and bleeding when police responded that night.
Arrest warrants have been issued for the driver and the man with the gun, according to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office.
Evans remained Tuesday in the Indian River County Jail without bail.
