An Australian man has pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm after infecting his gay lover with HIV six years ago.
Martin Jaksic, 30, previously pleaded not guilty to the offence, which took place in 2012.
Federal police officers eventually arrested him at Sydney Airport in 2016 as he was trying to board a flight out of the city.
Jaksic entered his guilty plea on Wednesday at Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court.
He has been on bail since his arrest in 2016.
Jaksic pleaded guilty to recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, reports W3 News.
The crime also warrants a custodial sentence, crown prosecutor Paul Lynch said.
‘It was my client’s view that the alleged victim was well aware that he had HIV,’ said Jaksic’s previous lawyer, Hugo Aston, to Central Local Court in 2016.
