Teacher Accused Of Performing Oral On Student He Met On Grindr
A teacher and student had a sexual encounter at Olathe East High School the day after they connected on an online dating app, according to allegations made in court documents released Tuesday.
Justin Adrian, who was also a city councilman in Shawnee, is charged in Johnson County District Court with a felony charge of unlawful sexual relations.
According to a probable cause affidavit made public Tuesday, the 18-year-old student reported the encounter to a family member who contacted school officials on Sept. 10.
He told police that he and Adrian, 33, communicated through the app on September 6. In an exchange of messages, they learned that he was a student and Adrian was a teacher at Olathe East, according to the affidavit.
The messages were “sexual in nature,” and Adrian told the student he could lose his job if people knew they were talking, the affidavit alleges.
Adrian asked if they could meet that day, but the student said he couldn’t.
The next day, the student said, he went to Adrian’s classroom during the school day. Adrian locked the door and they allegedly engaged in a sexual act.
Adrian gave the student a pass so he would not be marked late to his next class, and the student left the room through a back door, he told police.
Adrian resigned from the Shawnee City Council on Sept. 12, two days after he was placed on paid administrative leave from his teaching position.
Adrian is free on bond and is due back in court on Nov. 7.
