Black Panther stars Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira gave fans exactly what they wanted at the 2019 Golden Globes.
The two Marvel stars were having fun at InStyle‘s Golden Globes after-party, in a ‘party elevator’ video skit with co-star Michael B. Jordan.
The clip, shared on social media, shows Gurira waiting for an elevator, before the doors open to reveal Nyong’o and Jordan kissing.
Nyong’o promptly dismisses Jordan, and begins to make out with Gurira instead.
Sharing the clip, Nyong’o wrote: “When the cat’s away…”
The clip is getting a lot of love from fans online.
One fan quipped: “My bisexual heart can’t take this.”
Another added: “THANK U LUPITA FOR MY LESBIAN RIGHTS!!!!!”
Others proclaimed the kiss a great start to 20BiTeen, while some pointed out the 20-second clip includes the LGBT+ representation they had wanted in Black Panther itself.
Fans had hoped 2018 Marvel superhero film Black Panther would adapt a lesbian romance from the World of Wakanda comic books featuring female warriors Ayo and Aneka.
It was reported that early cuts of the film paid tribute to the storyline by featuring flirtations between Ayo (Florence Kasumba) and Okoye (Danai Gurira), however the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.
Kasumba previously confirmed to Vulture that a scene referencing her character’s sexuality had been abandoned.
She said: “The thing is, if the makers would have wanted everyone to see the scene, it would have been in the movie.
“The final result that we’ve seen, there were a few scenes that have been cut. Different scenes, also.
“They didn’t make it into the movie for certain reasons, and at that point, I have to say: What their reason is, I can’t tell you, because nobody told me about whether it’s in or not.”
