Progressive and fine.  You usually don't get both in the same package.  Anyway, A man claims he fired an employee who called a transgender colleague ‘it’. Twitter user Seven (S)aints, from Florida’s capital Tallahassee, posted a series of tweets detailing how he fired a man after he was rude to a transgender employee. He said he had terminated the man for a practice known as ‘misgendering’ someone, seen to be incredibly harmful and rude, especially in a work environment. The employer said the man had been given sensitivity training and was even previously warned about using the dehumanising pronoun instead of ‘she’.

The story was posted on Monday as June’s Pride Month gets fully underway with celebrations of the LGBT+ community expected in multiple countries.

The now viral tweet gained over 400,000 likes and 70,000 retweets since it was posted. Florida is an at-will employment state, which means employers and staff do not need to give notice before leaving a position.

This also means staff can be fired for any reason as long as it’s not illegal or discriminatory. After being challenged for firing the man, the manager said that it’s not hard to be respectful of people’s gender identities.
