A sergeant at the Boyd County Detention Center has been arrested on a charge of third-degree sodomy after a report was filed alleging improper contact with an inmate.

Kristapher Mackey, 36, of Rush was indicted by the Boyd County Grand Jury on Tuesday on the class C felony, according to court records.

Mackey was later arrested by Kentucky State Police and lodged at the Greenup County Detention Center.

Mackey was charged following an internal investigation was conducted after suspected policy violations by Mackey, said BCDC Jailer Bill Hensley. Mackey was first suspended without pay.

According to a press release from the facility, the investigation led to the discovery of possible criminal violations.

The matter was later turned over to Kentucky State Police for criminal investigation.

According to court documents the incident occurred on or about September 8, when Mackey engaged in deviate “sexual intercourse” with another person he knows is incarcerated.

“Kristapher Mackey was terminated from the Boyd County Detention Center due to the findings of our administrative investigation,” said the press release.

Effective termination date was September 19, according to the press release.
